Wallpaper Hanger — Cheshire & South Manchester
Feature walls, full rooms, and paper + paint bundles across the Cheshire / South Manchester corridor — Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Hale, Altrincham, Didsbury and the rest. Designer brands hung properly: lined, drop-matched, pattern-matched across corners. Specialist installations for hand-painted and bespoke papers by consultation.
Why wallpapering deserves its own service line
A badly hung feature wall looks worse than a flat coat of paint — seams telegraph, pattern goes out of true at corners, lining shows through. Wallpaper is a different craft to painting, and we treat it that way: dedicated prep, lining paper underneath, drop-matched seams, the right adhesive for the paper. If you've picked a paper that deserves a proper install, you're in the right place. If you're undecided between paper and a strong paint colour, we'll be honest about which suits the room.
When wallpaper is the right call
You want a feature wall that's actually a feature
One papered wall changes a room more than any paint colour can. Bedhead walls, chimney breasts, dining room accents — these are wallpaper jobs.
You've fallen for a specific paper
Cole & Son Hummingbirds, Little Greene archive florals, a Phillip Jeffries grasscloth — papers like these have no paint equivalent. The paper is the design.
Period property with strong proportions
Victorian and Edwardian rooms with picture rails, coving and dado divisions are designed for paper. We line, hang, and finish to suit period detail.
You're working with an interior designer
Designer-specified jobs — sample boards, paper sourced through the designer, scheduling around the rest of the project. We're set up for it.

Wallpapering — FAQs
Do I need to strip old wallpaper before you hang new paper?
Yes — almost always. Hanging new paper over old is a false economy: seams telegraph through, the new paper lifts as the old releases, and any moisture during paste application can blister both layers. We strip first, prep the wall, line if needed, then hang. Stripping is included in our full-room quotes.
Do you charge by the roll or by the day?
Both — depends on the job. Feature walls and small jobs are quoted as a fixed price (typically £180–£380). Full rooms and complex hangs are quoted per roll or per day depending on pattern complexity. Either way you get a fixed quote up front, not an hourly rate that creeps.
What's lining paper and do I need it?
Lining paper is a plain paper hung on the wall before your decorative paper goes on. It evens out plaster imperfections, gives the top paper a consistent surface to bond to, and dramatically improves the look and longevity of the finish. We recommend it on almost every job — especially for premium and HNW brands where the paper itself costs more than the labour.
Do you supply the paper or do I?
Either works. Most clients source their own paper — we'll measure the room, calculate roll quantity (including pattern-repeat waste), and give you the exact spec to order. We can also order on your behalf at trade rates from Cole & Son, Little Greene, Farrow & Ball and the mid-market brands; designer-brand papers go through your interior designer or direct from the brand.
Paste-the-wall vs traditional paste-the-paper — what's the difference?
Paste-the-wall (modern non-woven papers) means we paste the wall and dry-hang the paper. Faster, cleaner, easier to reposition. Paste-the-paper (traditional and most heritage brands) means the paper is pasted and left to soak before hanging. Slower but how most premium and HNW papers are designed to be installed. Each paper specifies which — we work to spec.
How long does a feature wall take?
Half a day to a full day depending on wall size, pattern complexity, and whether the wall needs lining. We arrive, prep, line (if needed), let it dry, then hang. Most feature walls are done in a single visit.
Can you install specialist papers like de Gournay or Fromental?
Yes. We work directly with interior designers on hand-painted, silk and bespoke commissions — de Gournay, Fromental, Iksel, Phillip Jeffries, Pierre Frey. These are installed by consultation, not by quote calculator, because the work is too project-specific. See our specialist pages for de Gournay and Fromental installations.
Do you offer wallpaper + paint bundles?
Yes — and it's our most popular service. Feature wall papered plus the rest of the room repainted in coordinating colour. One quote, one trade, one visit, one clean-up. Bundles run £450–£950 depending on room size.
What areas do you cover for wallpapering?
An affluent Cheshire / South Manchester corridor: Macclesfield, Wilmslow, Knutsford, Alderley Edge, Prestbury, Hale, Bowdon, Altrincham, Sale, Didsbury, Chorlton. We'll travel a bit further than these for the right job — get in touch.
Will the seams show?
Properly hung paper has seams that are essentially invisible on patterned and textured papers. On plain or grasscloth papers, seams are visible — that's the nature of the material, not the install. We sequence rolls to minimise seam visibility, reverse-roll grasscloth where required, and pattern-match across corners to draw the eye away from joins.
