de Gournay Installer — Cheshire & South Manchester
Specialist installation of de Gournay hand-painted Chinese chinoiserie, hand-embroidered silks, and bespoke panel commissions. Working directly with interior designers and private clients across the Cheshire / South Manchester corridor.
What a de Gournay installation involves
de Gournay papers are hand-painted to commission — each panel painted by hand on the brand's preferred ground (silk, paper, or dyed grasscloth) to the dimensions of your room. The installation is correspondingly specialist: panels arrive numbered, sequenced for pattern flow, and must be hung in the correct order against a wall surface prepared specifically to receive them.
Done well, a de Gournay scheme is the architectural feature of the room. Done badly, it is a very expensive mistake. We treat each installation as a project rather than a job — written prep specification, scheduled pre-install wall checks, designer coordination, and a fixed-price install quote produced after the consultation visit.
Our de Gournay installation process
- 1
Consultation visit
We visit the property, review the room, discuss the commission with you and (where applicable) your interior designer. We confirm wall condition, lighting, scheme intent, and any architectural detail that affects the install.
- 2
Prep specification
Written wall-prep specification — skim coats where needed, lining paper grade, primer, sealant. The specification is shared with you and the designer ahead of work commencing so there's no ambiguity later.
- 3
Wall preparation
Carried out ahead of paper arrival. Walls inspected at completion before any panels are unboxed.
- 4
Dry positioning
Panels unboxed and positioned dry against the wall. Pattern flow confirmed with you and the designer before any adhesive is mixed. Adjustments at this stage are routine and expected.
- 5
Install
Panel by panel, drop-matched to the millimetre. Adhesive matched to the ground (different for silk vs paper). Most rooms take 3–5 working days for a typical dining room or principal bedroom installation.
- 6
Sign off
Inspected together with you and the designer under daylight and lamp light. Final touch-ups, handover, photography for our portfolio (with your permission).
What the room needs to be
Costs
de Gournay paper is commission-priced and project-specific. Hand-painted panels start in the low thousands of pounds per panel; silk grounds and larger commissions exceed that significantly. Installation is quoted separately following the consultation visit, based on room dimensions, wall-prep scope, panel count, ground type, and access. We provide a written fixed-price quote — there are no hourly or open-ended charges.
For interior designers
Most of our de Gournay work comes through interior designers and we're set up to work that way: sample reviews, written prep specifications shared ahead of any wall work, scheduling that respects the wider project timeline, dust-controlled working in occupied properties, and NDA-friendly conduct.
We're happy to walk a site at concept stage if you want a specialist installer's view on what the room can take. Get in touch and we'll arrange it.
FAQs
Do you install de Gournay wallpapers?
Yes. We are a specialist installer for de Gournay hand-painted and hand-embroidered wallpapers across the Cheshire and South Manchester corridor. Each commission is installed by consultation — the paper, the room, and the prep are all project-specific.
What's the lead time from commission to install?
From commission to delivery, de Gournay typically quotes 12–18 weeks for hand-painted papers, sometimes longer for larger or more complex schemes. We work backwards from the install date to confirm wall prep ahead of paper arrival.
What standard of wall prep is required for de Gournay?
The highest. de Gournay paper sits flat on lined, prepared walls — any plaster imperfection telegraphs through. We typically specify a full skim where plaster is uneven, lining paper (1700 grade) across all four walls, and a sealed primer. We'll inspect the room at consultation and confirm the prep scope in writing.
How does the install actually run?
Panels arrive numbered for sequence — they were painted to your room's dimensions at commission stage. We position dry, confirm pattern flow with you and the designer, then hang panel by panel. Drop matches are managed to the millimetre. Most de Gournay installs take 3–5 days for a typical dining room or principal bedroom.
Do you work with interior designers?
Most de Gournay commissions come through interior designers and that's how we prefer to work — sample matching, scheme coordination, scheduling around the rest of the project, NDA-friendly working. We also handle direct commissions from clients who have specified the paper themselves.
What does it cost?
Costs are project-specific. de Gournay panels start in the low thousands of pounds per panel for hand-painted papers; installation is quoted on consultation based on room dimensions, wall prep scope, panel count, and complexity. We provide a written fixed-price quote after the consultation visit.
