What a Fromental installation involves
Fromental papers are produced in the London atelier — hand-painted and frequently hand-embroidered on silk, paper, or bespoke substrates. Each commission is matched to your room's dimensions at the design stage, then arrives as numbered panels for sequenced installation.
The install is correspondingly demanding: humidity controlled, adhesive matched precisely to the ground type, panels handled with clean hands and dust-controlled working. Silk-ground installations are particularly unforgiving — moisture, adhesive bleed, or mishandling marks the silk permanently. We follow Fromental's installation guidance to the letter and provide a written prep specification ahead of work commencing.
Ground types we install
Silk grounds
The signature Fromental finish — hand-painted designs on a silk substrate. Demands controlled humidity, clean working, and a perfectly prepared wall.
Paper grounds
Hand-painted on paper — more forgiving than silk in the install but still demanding lining and full prep.
Embroidered ranges
Heavier, three-dimensional. Adhesive grade and panel-by-panel sequencing change vs printed ranges. We work to brand specification per commission.
Bespoke commissions
Custom designs to your scheme. We coordinate with the atelier and your designer through the commission so the install is right when panels arrive.
Our Fromental installation process

Consultation visit
We visit the property, review the room and the commission with you and (where applicable) your interior designer. Wall condition, humidity, lighting, surrounding scheme — all assessed at this stage.

Written prep specification
Skim coats, lining paper grade, primer and sealant. Shared with you and your designer ahead of any wall work.

Wall preparation
Completed and cured ahead of paper arrival. Final inspection before panels are unboxed.

Environmental check
Humidity and temperature confirmed in the working range, particularly critical for silk-ground installs.

Dry positioning
Panels unboxed and positioned dry. Pattern flow confirmed with you and designer before any adhesive is applied.

Install
Panel by panel, brand-specified adhesive, sequenced installation. Most rooms take 3–5 working days.

Sign off
Inspected together under daylight and lamp light. Final touch-ups, handover, designer walkthrough.

Fromental paper is commission-priced. Paper grounds start in the high hundreds of pounds per panel; silk and embroidered ranges rise significantly from there. Installation is quoted separately following the consultation visit, based on room dimensions, ground type, panel count, and prep scope. Written fixed-price quote — no hourly or open-ended charges.

We use Fromental's specified adhesives and follow the brand's install guidance to the letter — there is no margin for improvisation on silk.
What's the lead time from commission to install?
Fromental commissions typically take 10–16 weeks from order to delivery, longer for bespoke designs that require sample matching. We schedule the wall preparation to complete just ahead of paper arrival so panels can be installed onto a fresh, fully cured surface.
Do you handle Fromental embroidered ranges?
Yes. The embroidered ranges are heavier and require additional care during handling, particularly at corners and around switch plates. The adhesive grade, lining specification, and panel-by-panel sequencing all change vs printed ranges — we work to Fromental's installation specification document for each commission.
Do you work with interior designers?
Most of our Fromental installations come through interior designers. Sample reviews, written prep specifications, scheduling coordination, dust-controlled working in occupied properties, NDA-friendly conduct. We're set up for designer-led projects.
